Get your cell phone out of your back pocket and into this easy crochet purse. Use your favorite colors to make this easy pattern. Embellish it to show off your own personal style. You can wear this purse as a shoulder bag or a cross body bag. Let’s talk about different purse patterns to see what style fits you.
Small Crochet Purse Patterns
Crochet purses are trending now on social media. Crochet purses with zippers, crochet market bags, and granny square bags are everywhere on YouTube and Pinterest. Another trendy item are crossbody bags. These bags allow you to keep your hands free but your bag secured across your body so the strap won’t slip down your shoulder.
Crochet purses and crossbody bags are made with cotton, t-shirt or acrylic yarn. My favorites are the ones that have cotton lining sewed into the purse but you don’t need that for a cell phone purse. It also makes a great fashion statement depending on how bold your yarn choice is.
I was bored one night and came up with this pattern. I ended up making a bunch of these with basic crochet stitches like single crochet, extended single crochet stitches, double crochet, half double crochet and slip stitch.
Through trial and error, the easy crochet purse looked better with tight stitches instead of double crochet stitches because when the phone lights up it won’t shine as bright through the purse.
No need for a stitch marker either, you will form a long strip and fold in half, then join the sides and make the strap. Purse crochet patterns are so fun to stitch up but I would call this more of a crossbody phone bag.
The best thing about this pattern is that once you know the basic steps, you can add different colors and experiment with different stitches to create your own unique perfect pattern.
Embellishments
This was a lot of fun customizing each crochet purse for my cell phone with an assortment of acrylic yarns from my yarn stash. I crocheted a simple round shape of a solid color acrylic yarn. These circles were made to be no larger than the width of the cell phone crochet purse. Or you could turn the circle into an optional flower and attach to the small crochet purse. Next, attached the crocheted circle or optional flower to the center of the purse using the same color yarn.
Next, I used a different color yarn and made dashes around the rim of the circle under the outer row of stitches. I crocheted double strands with single crochet stitches to make letters.
Crochet Letters
Try adding crocheted letters to the crochet purse using the same color yarn as the letters. This worked for first names that were four letters, don’t think I could have squeezed in a fourth letter but give it a try. You could also crochet flowers and attached as well.
You could also add fringe to the crochet purse either on the bottom two corners or fringe across the entire bottom of the purse. Look on social media or Pinterest for crochet market bag patterns or those adorable crochet coin purse pics and see what embellishments they added. Get inspiration by googling your topic and doing searches on Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube of course.
There are so many people doing the same things right now. My preference for my own sanity is to not look too much at social media when I’m creating content, at least I don’t look at other peoples work until I have finished my design. I know there must be hundred of other people that make these phone purses but this one is my design. I think these would be great for holidays, see below.
Holiday Crochet Purse
You could really go wild and create a cell phone crochet purse for the holiday’s of your choice. For some reason I use a lot of red, white and blue. Call me patriotic but they look really cool. My red, white and blue cell phone crossbody bags give off a Tommy Hilfiger or Ralph Lauren vibe too. They are classic, understated and a simple pattern that I enjoy using. I have a couple cell phone crochet purses now that I can use for the fourth of July!
It also makes a great summer bag. You can add your ID, credit card, lip gloss and keys instead of putting your cell phone in it to have a little crochet beach bag for your personal items that you can hide under your beach towel and you head down to the beach.
Anyway, I just think it’s the perfect bag and the perfect project that you can complete in an hour. That’s why I think this will be a great item for me to sell at boutiques and markets. See more below.
Small Crochet Purse Pattern – Sell At Markets
I walk my dog Rose every day when I get home from work. She’s old and so we walk really slow. She has to sniff everything and that’s fine with me because I listen to an audiobook. My Apple Earbuds are always in and that means my cell phone needs to be on me at all times.
One of my neighbors paints and has a yard boutique with other vendors, we finally met last week on one of my walks. She noticed the red cell phone crochet purse I was wearing and finally commented on them the second time we met. She invited me to sell some crochet and quilt items in December. That’s when I started making more cell phone crochet purses because they are quick and unique.
If you are a crafter and sell your wares in any upcoming holiday boutiques, you may want to give this free crochet purse pattern a try and add it to your sellable items. You have my permission! This is the type of item that can drive people to your booth and then they stay and look at your more expensive item. These make great gifts or even a gift bag for candles maybe, just shorten the length of the strip. Now let’s move down to the free pattern you have been waiting for. Drum roll please.
Small Crochet Cell Phone Purse (FREE PATTERN)
Please note: Both patterns are for an iPhone 13 but you can adjust to any size phone. To adjust to your phone, make the crochet bag per the instructions below. Before joining, fold the bag over your phone and do a fit check. The crochet bag should cover only the front of the phone and if it’s covering the sides, it’s too big. You need to remove a row or two.
On the flip side, it it’s not wide or long enough (your phone is larger than mine) you will need to add stitches onto your starting chain and increase. The yarn has some give to it so when measuring, note that it will get a little larger when the phone is in the bag.

1 skein Red Heart Super Saver 4 ply worsted weight acrylic yarn (Red, Aran and Navy)

I ♥️ these, Nikki!
These look easy & quick to make before I head to the beach OR just on a walk to get some exercise with a friend.
I was thinking about maybe using left over yarn from other projects to make a colorful variety of purses to coordinate with all my outfits.
