Cluck Cluck Sew Patterns – Brightly Beginner Quilt
If you’ve been around here for a minute, you know I rarely buy quilt patterns. I usually sketch my own ideas or improvise as I go. But every now and then, a pattern completely wins me over and Cluck Cluck Sew Brightly quilt pattern was one of the first paid patterns I ever bought. Worth every penny.

I made this quilt about a year into my quilting journey for my granddaughter, and she still uses it. That’s the real sign of a good quilt: it gets loved, dragged around, and actually used. Pattern is for quilters of all skill levels. No tricky seams, beginner quilting skills only to get this cozy quilt.

Why I Picked the Brightly Pattern by Cluck Cluck Sew Patterns
Brightly has that perfect mix of simple, modern, and cheerful. It looks more impressive than it is, which is exactly what you want when you’re newer and craving something beyond charm squares but not ready for a full-blown triangle marathon. Plus I love star blocks and this pattern has those too. You don’t have to learn a new stitch, just traditional piecing methods that include sewing straight lines and nesting seams.
It’s one of Cluck Cluck Sew’s patchwork-themed patterns. You can make countless projects with the blocks from this pattern too. You can make mini quilts or table runners with leftover blocks. Gave these away to my two bosses for Christmas gifts back in 2022.

Fabric: Lori Holt Goodness
I stitched mine up using a Lori Holt fabric. This was a fat quarter bundle but now I buy half yard bundles. The fabric was Farm Girl Vintage fabric which are bright, vintage style prints that made this pattern shine. Brightly really loves color, and the mix of cheerful prints brings the whole quilt to life. This fabric always charms in quilting projects and make any quilt pop.

Beginner Brightly Quilt
When You Don’t Know What to Quilt Yet
When you’re new to quilting, you don’t always know what to make. Sewing charm squares together and slapping on a border is fun… for the first few tiny quilts. After that, you want something with a little more interest.

Half square triangles can be tricky and time-consuming when you’re still figuring out seam allowances and sewing over thick seams. That’s one big reason Brightly caught my eye. It wasn’t complicated or fussy — just lots of pieces that turn into simple units. More engaging than charm squares, easier than HSTs, and perfect for beginners wanting a small challenge without feeling overwhelmed.
The hardest part was trimming all the different measurements and keeping my seam allowance consistent. This quilt is made using two different quilt blocks and both are easy to piece together.

Cutting & the Scant 1/4″ Seam
Brightly involves a lot of cutting in different sizes, so take your time and label your stacks. It’s totally doable for beginners — just don’t rush it.
The pattern also works best with a scant 1/4″ seam allowance. When I made mine, I had no clue what “scant” meant. I stitched a regular 1/4″ the whole time, so I’m sure my quilt ended up a bit smaller than the official size. Nothing major. I don’t have the finished measurements because the quilt is with my 13-year-old granddaughter in the Bay Area, being loved to pieces.
Easy Straight Line Quilting (Perfect for Beginners)
One of the best parts of making the Brightly quilt was how easy it was to quilt. This pattern is made for straight line quilting — the ultimate beginner-friendly quilting style when you’re using your home sewing machine for the first time.

The blocks line up beautifully for simple vertical or horizontal lines, and the whole design really shines with minimal quilting. Straight lines keep everything clean and modern, and they’re super forgiving for new quilters.
