Hello friends. Today, I have a treat for you – a fast and easy crochet baby blanket pattern that’s perfect for both beginners and the more seasoned crocheter. The star of the show? The timeless Moss Stitch, also known as the Linen Stitch. This classic stitch has a beautiful texture and is perfect for making cozy blankets. The Moss Stitch is made by chaining in multiples of 2 (does not include a turning chain). This is also a quick crochet baby blanket pattern and can be completed in 6-8 hours. Let’s dive into the pattern and get those hooks moving! Finished size of the blanket measures 41″ x 29″.
The basic stitches are single crochet and double crochet stitches, that’s it. This easy pattern is made with bulky Lion Brand Hometown Chunky 6 acrylic yarn using the Moss stitch, also known as the Linen stitch. Amount of yarn needed is 5 skeins of Hometown yarn and a small portion of 1 skein accent yarn. It’s a gorgeous baby blanket and would make an great baby shower gift or gift for the holidays. But the best part of all, I’m sharing the pattern with you for free! This is a free crochet blanket pattern for a baby.
It’s also a beginner-friendly pattern using a combination of single crochet stitch and dc stitches, finished with a shell border that creates a ruffled edge. Works up fast! Plus there are only a few color changes so not a lot of yarn tails to weave in which is ALWAYS nice.
It’s a family tradition
You may remember that earlier this year I made a king size log cabin quilt with sashing and cornerstones for my best friends daughter, Hannah, as a wedding gift when she got married. Hannah is a flight attendant for Alaska and loves to travel the world. If you ever fly Alaska and see her, make sure you tell her hello!
Hannah was on a dating show that I forgot all about. MTV flew her to the Dominican Republic for 90 days back in 2017, thank goodness that didn’t work out or else she wouldn’t be Mrs. Hill today!
Well, now I’m making Hannah a baby blanket and I’m over the moon. I won’t be able to attend the baby shower so I’m giving her my baby shower gift when I go to Pleasanton for Christmas. Hannah is also a a social influencer over on Instagram.
This fast easy crochet baby blanket is named in honor of their new arrival, making his debut in 2024. When Hannah was little, I gave her a crochet baby blanket along with her siblings. I’m so honored to be able to pass that family tradition onto her kids now too. Plus, this adorable blanket will make the perfect gift because as creative folks, we pour all our love into what we make with our hands. Our items are homemade with love, lots and lots of LOVE.

I hope you try this crocheted baby blanket using basic crochet stitches, single crochet and double crochet stitches. The Moss stitch is a beautiful stitch and the pattern is a one-row repeat which is the best! Makes a perfect gift for a baby boy or baby girl.
This beautiful blanket works up fast, only takes 6-8 hours depending on how fast you crochet. Best yarn for this is a super bulky 6 weight yarn (also called chunky yarn), look for the number 6 on the yarn label. Do not use cotton yarns for this project. Only 5 skeins of yarn (bulky yarn) needed and 1 small skein of accent yarn (use scrap yarn if you can). Simple pattern, simple stitches and easy pattern repeat that you will love to work up.

Thank you Nikki!

This is a beautiful baby blanket! Do you have any idea about how much it cost in total to make? Thanks!

Hi Megan – Lion Brand is in the medium price range for yarns and sell for $11.99 in the craft stores. Michael’s craft store had these for 50% off right after Thanksgiving so see if they still have their sale going on and grab some. Amazon has a three pack for $18.99. My sister made a baby blanket for me similar to this, and I love it! I don’t crochet, but this tutorial makes it seem easy to learn and to try my hand at making one – thank you!
