Free One Piece Crochet Afghan Pattern – Bobble Afghan
Today I’m sharing a free one piece crochet afghan pattern with you called The Bobble Afghan. This cozy blanket is fun to make and has great texture with the big bobbles. Works up fast and makes a perfect gift or keep for yourself. Finished blanket size measures 53″ x 63″.

I love easy afghan patterns with simple stitches, it’s the perfect way to spend a fall day crocheting and catching up with friends or family over the phone. Cozy blanket made in one piece with basic crochet stitches and laced with the trendy bobble stitch (consists of 5 double crochet stitches). So if you have been searching for a beautiful blanket using bulky yarn with zero color changes, this is the perfect afghan blanket for you!
Skill level is confident beginner which most beginner crocheters tend to be now a days! Using two colors of medium weight 4 yarn and a 9 mm crochet hook for this great project. This is my favorite crochet chunky yarn blanket but made with 2 strands of yarn. You can use worsted weight or aran weight yarn, it’s your choice. The yarn weight is slightly different for aran weight yarn and worsted weight yarn but will not be an issue for this free crochet pattern.
My favorite type of yarn for this project is acrylic medium weight yarn is Lion Brand Pound of Love or Yarnspirations Caron One Pound Yarn for project such as blankets and clothing. It’s soft yarn, comes in lots of different colors and is great for this crochet projects. Yarn colors used in my sample is purple and white. You can use one single color of yarn but you need to use two skeins at a time to get the right thickness for this afghan.

For the sample afghan, I used 5 skeins of yarn and here’s exactly what was used for my sample: 3 Skeins of Yarnspirations Caron One Pound Yarn (White) and 2 skeins of Lion Brand Pound of Love (Thistle Chardon) which is purple or any two colors of yarn. The color scheme is up to you but any time you use white colors with a darker color, the contrast is the best thing.

Border Instructions
80: CH 1, 3 SCs in first corner stitch. SC around all four sides for the first round of the border. Add 3 SCs on each corner.
81: 3 DC’s in firm corner stitch. DC in each stitch on all four sides for the last round of the border. Add 3 DCs in each corner. This will ensure the afghan lays flat and won’t curl up at the corners. Tie off when done and weave in tails with yarn needle.

Tips and Tricks
Experiment with different color combinations for a personalized touch. Whether you prefer bold and bright or soft and subtle, the bobble stitches will showcase your chosen colors beautifully.
You don’t need to block this blanket. Blocking is for granny squares, save your time and energy and skip this step.
Keep on eye on your yarn and make sure you watch it closely to ensure you are still pulling up both colors. It’s easy for one color to fall off your hook. Rip out and redo if needed.
Tighten your tension yarn up after each extended single crochet stitch.
Make sure you pull up before you pull final stitch to close the bobble. If you gently pull the hook with all the loops on it upwards AND face crochet hook teeth down, then pull up and through it works best.
